Calypso Rose 13/01/2025
Nearly halfway through January, and I have already fallen
behind. I haven't sent out my 2025 predictions yet. Now don't panic. There is already enough doom and
gloom out there, and I absolutely refuse to add to the mix. These predictions - actually, let's call
them 'trends' - are where I see growth. This is based on the experiences you buy, the places that I see
opening, and the way my friends and I spend our leisure time. Yes, yes. I get it. This may seem to be a
bit too simplistic to be taken seriously, but honestly, you do get your eye in.
I’m pleased to
say that off-grid, disconnecting and
chucking your phone to the bottom of your bag is going to be big this year. Wifi-free cabins to solo forest bathing. The more we’re forced
towards a screen the more we are pulling the other way at every opportunity. It’s not easy but if you’ve
read Dopamine Nation - a must read - you’ll know how necessary it is.
1. Sweat it out in a Sauna
Personally, I can't get enough of them. Take me to any town in the world, and the first place I
will sound out is the local sauna. In the UK they are cropping up all over the shop. There is a fab
pop-up opening in King's Cross this month where you can get toasty for a mere £6 an hour. Called the
'Slow Motion Sauna', it is just part of the sauna revolution. Barrels, horseboxes, saunas with views,
saunas in gardens, floating on rivers, infrared or traditional, even saunas with 3D printed plunges -
photographed here.
You will need another mortgage to keep up with the trend. These hotties
aren't going anywhere.

2.
Gardening Indoors
Lush is the word for 2025. Let's start with hydroponics.
Propagation stations are taking off. There is something about watching your cuttings grow roots in
water that is very satisfying. For a start, you don't have to fiddle about in the soil to see if
they have taken. Multiplying what you have will offset your sauna habit.Glass jars are the key, and
then there are the avocado vases from Ilex Studio. Seed to plant - and rather chic.Vertical gardens
are taking root indoors. They take a while to get started, but if you've an empty wall, well worth
the effort, and then there's those delicious, very smart indoor gardens that come complete with LED
lighting (yes, I got one for Christmas). Fresh leaves and herbs in days. Indoor gardening has come a
long way; bringing the outside in has just started to gain serious roots.
3. The Shroom Boom
Continues
Health benefits galore, and terribly easy to grow. Medicinal mushrooms
have been used as food and remedies forever, but they are now officially superfoods. The fun-guys that
started Dirtea have been shining a spotlight on these for some time and I've been piling up the
different ways I consume them.
Drink them, cook them, take them as a supplement, I’ve even seen
them turned into zen musical instruments but whatever you do, don't go and pick your own without
specialised training (we’ve got a couple of experts that can help!).
With pennies getting ever so
slightly tighter in 2025 foraging and working with nature will definitely be the way to go. I look at
nettles a totally different way these day. Yum Yum.
