There is something magical about visiting a theatre without the audience. It is a privilege. This particular theatre has been renovated to the tune of 60 million pounds, and it oozes glamour. Visit backstage areas, learn about the origins of theatrical terms, and keep an eye out for the ‘Man in Grey’—this is the world's most haunted theatre. His bones were discovered during theatre renovations in 1840, and you’ll hear about the ghosts who continue to walk the boards. So it’s ‘Beginner’s to the stage, please. This is your five-minute call. Stand by.’ An hour of immersion into an actor’s life. Break a leg.

You will be surrounded by glamour from the moment you set foot into the art deco inspired, Cecil Beaton Bar.  Chandeliers, ornate ceilings, fine art, and beautiful furnishings create just the right backdrop for a Lily Vanilli tea. Where to start?  Miniature crumpets with Earl Grey cream cheese; tiny little coronation chicken pies; frilly pastel-piped cakes; and ice cream sandwiches stacked with strawberry syrup and marshmallow all served on bone china whimsically designed by Kit and Willow Kemp.  This is a tea straight from Hackney's legendary artisan baker, Lily Vanilli.

Oh, and by the way, you also have access to an all-day Hop On Hop Off river cruise rover. So you could arrive by river and walk your way up to the theatre. How theatrical is that?

This British Clipper is only one of three left intact. She has been damaged by fire twice in recent years, but this boat is a survivor. It is now a working museum. The outside of the building is very understated, but once inside this nirvana of wellness the atmosphere is one of scandi chic.The sauna was practically invented by the Swedes, who realised very early on that dry heat is more than just a body treatment, it is also a social experience.  Feel your body visibly relax as you enter this cream and white temple to heat and ice.Plants filter the air and soften the space. There are two delightfully designer saunas - one traditionally heated, the other by infrared and the space is edged with 3D printed (really) plunge pods. They are the epitome of smart. Divided from each other by glass screens they are defined by their coldness.  6 degrees for the hardened plunger, 8 or 10 degrees if you want a slow build, or if you aren’t feeling up to a total dip there is a shower for a quick, sharp shock.  There is a maximum of eight people per session, so overcrowding is never going to be an issue. Kintsugi Workshop

A hands-on workshop where you'll be guided step by step on how to repair broken china using golden resin...   WHAT'S THIS ALL ABOUT? Learn how to mend once loved china and earthenware in this mindful introduction to the Kintsugi method. The visible repairs are seen as part of the history of an object, highlighting the cracks and symbolising fragility, strength and beauty. This golden repair is called Kintsugi.   WHAT HAPPENS IN THIS WORKSHOP?   The idea of this workshop is to repair a loved item, joining together the fractures using the Japanese Kintsugi method - applying the resin glue to the broken sections and making it whole once more. The imperfections aren’t to be hidden but embraced! The Kintsugi method celebrates the beauty of the scars in an object and recognises that the history should be shown and not hidden. Choose your broken porcelain (vase, bowl, plate or cup), and be taken by our resident Indytute expert, step by step through the technique of mending each section piece by piece. This is very much a thoughtful and methodical process….not to be rushed, where each piece is applied and repaired carefully. THE ALL IMPORTANT DETAILS The Indytute will provide all the kit needed for this workshop: You can bring your own china but we can't guarantee it'll be finished on time as the process needs to be done with patience. The class is two hours and runs monthly on Saturdays and Tuesday or Thursday evening. Location is Kensal Rise (a couple of stops from Paddington).
