Step onto the glass floor at Tower Bridge, indulge in a delicious afternoon tea, and cruise the Thames — a thrilling, scenic, and unforgettable London day out for two.
WHAT'S THIS ALL ABOUT?
Are you brave enough to stand on the glass floors of Tower Bridge? You really don't have to worry. The glass took six weeks to put in place and can hold the weight of 6 elephants - it's just getting them up there that's the problem. You will be standing 42 metres above the Thames and the view of the river is a marvel.
The bridge itself took eight years to build, and of course you will be learning about the history behind its construction. The bridge design ensured vessels could access the Pool of London - the busiest port in the world. It still opens regularly for ships to pass through, and if you are standing above when the action takes place - lucky you! In fact if you are very organised, check out the timetable for the next lifting and see if you can co-ordinate a visit.
There's the Victorian engine rooms to explore and the steam engines that powered the bridge's lifts. You will know more about the building of bridges from this visit than you ever thought possible.
TELL ME MORE
Back down to earth, relax and talk bridges over tea at the Novotel London Bridge. It's surprising how much a tea appeals after you've done a bit of bridge walking. It's a traditional tea, and you never knew a scone could taste so good. Pass the cream please.
