Explore the Royal Mews' historic carriages and stables, then enjoy elegant afternoon tea at The Royal Horseguards Hotel overlooking the Thames. For Two People.
WHAT'S THIS ALL ABOUT?
The headquarters of the Household Cavalry has remained broadly the same for 350 years. This is a behind-the-scenes look at the work that goes on there. It is also home to the Royal collection of historic coaches and carriages. It has been the location for the sovereign's transport since 1760.
There's the spectacular Diamond Jubilee State Coach and the Australian State Coach which includes central heating. Every coach needs central heating. If you think you have already seen them bowling along on television, be prepared to be amazed as you take in the carriage details close up. Look out for horses. Windsor Greys and Cleveland Bays are used to pull the carriages and they are chosen for their steady temperament and stamina. During your visit, you can see the livery worn by the King's Coachmen - different liveries for different occasions, and the workmanship is plain to see.
This visit will change the way you view State occasions.
TELL ME MORE
Now it's time for a leisurely stroll along The Mall to The Royal Horseguards Hotel.
Perched on the banks of the Thames, this is the perfect spot for a traditional afternoon tea. Finger sandwiches, scones and a tier of mini cakes are served in an atmosphere of Victorian elegance. The hotel itself is steeped in history and has been used in over twenty films, unsurprisingly most have been spy dramas. The club apartments were used by the first chief of the British Intelligence Service, and the restaurant is called 'Whitehall 1212' after a world-famous telephone number.
Scotland Yard's, in case you didn't know.
A special day out for Londoners as well as out-of-towners.
