city can be stressful, so we recommend an adventerous activity to get those
gentle endorphins flowing. Take a day off and trade your busy commute for a paddleboard session and take
in some gorgeous views.
We’ve consulted the experts and here are our top five paddleboarding
spots near London that combine spectacular views, chill vibes and a splash of adventure.If you’re an
experienced paddler or a novice, these sites guarantee a fun outing on the water.
1. Kew Bridge
Set out on your
paddleboarding journey at Kew Bridge. This gem offers an easy-access slipway and a gentle paddle
towards Richmond. Head west past stunning Kew Gardens and take in views of Syon House where
Bridgerton was filmed. Pop into the London Apprentice, a Grade II listed Georgian riverside pub
located on the banks of the Thames. Remember to check the tides before you hit the water. You may
even glimpse of some local wildlife along the way. The famous “Tommy the seal” often frequents this
stretch of the Thames from Teddington Lock to Strand on the Green. You may just be lucky enough to
spot him.
2. Camden Lock
Camden is your location of choice if
you're looking for a mix of city buzz and water fun. Drift past quirky houseboats, creative murals
as you paddle along the Regent’s Canal in one of London’s most vibrant neighbourhoods. You can even
push on to London Zoo where you can spot monkeys swinging about in their enclosure. Post Paddle you
can take in sites of the markets which have been selling their wares, antiques and unusual gifts
since the 1970s, or savour a delicious meal at one of the many canalside
eateries.
3. Brentford Lock
New to SUP? Brentford Lock is the
perfect spot for you. The water along this stretch of the Grand Union Canal is calm, almost like a
millpond, so it is an ideal spot to build your paddleboarding confidence. Whilst you can float past
quiet houseboats and take in view of the striking new developments, this tract of canal has little
waterway traffic. It also opens up into a wide harbour area so you have lots of space to hone your
skills. Next enjoy a wander around this mid regeneration suburb with a host of great local pubs
nearby for that well-deserved post-paddle tipple. Brentford offers a relaxed day out, just right for
beginners.
4. Henley-on-Thames
Henley-on-Thames
offers a tranquil cruise on your SUP. It’s only a 45 minute drive or 1 hour train from London and is
considered one of the prettiest towns along the banks of the Thames. Gorgeous countryside views
accompany those of the 13th century market town famed for its rowing and as a filming location for
Midsummer Murders. Maybe take a picnic to enjoy on the banks of the river mid paddle. Soak in the
beauty of the English countryside at this great paddleboarding
spot.
5. Leigh-on-Sea
Calm, shallow waters await you at
Leigh-on-Sea so you can build up your paddleboarding skills. This charming coastal town is a short
train ride from London. Just remember to check the tides as when they're out, you may find yourself
walking up to a mile just to get ankle deep in water. Once on the board, enjoy the laid-back seaside
atmosphere, explore local galleries, and treat yourself to some of the freshest seafood from one of
the local cockle sheds post paddle.
