The Cheese Barge - is it a floating paradise for cheese lovers?

A review of our most popular gift experience -  The Cheese Barge.

30th birthday gift ideas

A Voyage of Fromage.

We were gifted this Cheese Afternoon Tea experience as a 60th birthday present. Having read some previous reviews I was not sure what to expect. We were not disappointed at all. The cheese and wine tastings were of the highest quality, with our server describing our selection in great detail and answering all our questions. Thinking of what the individual components would have cost, I think it was good value for money. We did not mention to the staff that it was a birthday, but they overheard our conversation with a fellow diner and presented us with a delicious sweet treat to finish our visit. That is what I call great service and attention to detail. I found the whole experience relaxing and hugely enjoyable. Thank you to all at The Cheese Barge!  Melanie C March '23

the Cheese Barge is that it was founded by the lovely Mathew Carver, who is passionate about promoting British cheese. He started a small business called The Cheese Truck, which eventually led to the creation of the Cheese Barge. The barge is a unique way to enjoy cheese, offering a menu that changes with the seasons. It's a fun and interactive experience, with a focus on education and appreciation of cheese. I've spoken to Matthew many times about cheese and you can tell that even after so many years in the biz his passion hasn't waned! As a fellow business owner that is fantastic to see and you can tell his staff feel the same.

The Cheese Barge is a cheese lover's dream come true, offering a 'voyage' of discovery. As you step aboard, you're met with the welcoming aroma of artisanal cheeses and a nautical atmosphere. The crew is friendly, knowledgeable and passionate about all things cheese, ready to guide you on a journey of flavour. For those looking for a fantastic gift experience, The Cheese Barge offers an 'Afternoon Cheese' menu, which includes a selection of six British cheeses, crackers, and a carafe of wine. The menu can be adapted for vegetarian and gluten-free diets, making it a perfect option for groups of all tastes and preferences. It's the ideal way to relax and savor the best of British cheese in a magical, waterside setting

Fun venue, great menu and terrific service

We LOVED the Cheese Barge. We had terrific, friendly, attentive servers who helped us select cheese to sample, and we loved the accompaniments that paired perfectly with the cheeses. We were lucky and able to sit outside, which elevated an already great experience.

Lovely Find and Treat

Loved it! Helpfully accessed just outside one of Paddington station exits, little barge beneath the new architectural developments of this regenerated site. Had four hour walk before around Paddington, Little Venice, and Maida Vale (including the amazing Clifton Gardens), so feeling pretty hungry when arrived for our Christmas gift of Cheese Afternoon tea for two. Perfect amount of choice of six cheeses with accompaniements which were amazing - truffle oil, rosemary and suger honeycomb as examples - with a welcome carafe of wine. Lovely service and a novel treat - highly recommend for something different.

I bought this experience as a Christmas present for my partner. We had a wonderful time, the staff were knowledgeable and very friendly. The barge was great, tables not too close together.A good choice of cheeses and the house was really very good. Well worth another visit in the summer when the roof terrace is open.Thank you Cheese Barge for a wonderful experience, would wholeheartedly recommend you. Thanks from Sue
