WHAT'S THIS ALL ABOUT?

It is a distinct possibility that you have never eaten Ethiopian food. In fact, it may be one of London’s best kept secrets, which seems extraordinary, especially given our love for a spice.

Ethiopians think of food as a community project. Eating with friends and family is part of their heritage.  Nothing could be nicer than gathering round a tray of fresh injera, to share a dinner of stews, grains and vegetables - forget cutlery, this is hands on kind of eating - which is where the injera comes in useful.

Injera is a sour fermented flatbread - slightly on the spongy side, and used as a plate base. It is made from a super grain, and is very useful for scooping up deliciousness. Nothing to wash up, just tear off, wrap and roll.

WHAT HAPPENS IN THIS WORKSHOP?

This class is all about learning the basics of authentic Ethiopian cooking techniques, and the key ingredients essential to the recipes. Herbs, spices, legumes and multi-grains are a given but just how do you ferment injera? Don’t worry at the end of this lesson you will have covered all bases. This is food filled with flavour, and accessible to anyone interested in learning how to cook simple, mouth-watering recipes.

After the lesson, it’s time for some serious scooping. Sit down alongside your fellow pupils and share what you prepared only an hour earlier. We should also say that the space itself is perfect. Located in Shepherds Bush Market, arch 176 to be precise, you will find a cultural hub with a vibrant and friendly atmosphere. So get ready to learn a whole new cooking language, and discover a hidden gem.
