WHAT'S THIS ALL ABOUT?
Immerse yourself in the basics and the joys of street photography. This is a serious workshop. Come away feeling a new connection with your camera, and inspired to take your photography to the next level. This is a 6-hour workshop and the day is divided up with theory and practical.
You will be looking at the work of some of the more important street photographers, and exploring the tips and techniques they employ. Using fun exercises you will be guided step by step into how to look at and capture life on the streets.
After a short break for lunch it’s time to put the theory into practice. Two and half hours will be spent outside with your camera. Your tutor Eva will be on hand throughout, giving advice and tips. Run free, or work on a set task, it’s up to you.
You can bring any type of camera with you. DSLR or mirrorless cameras are the best if you want to explore and experiment with photography, but all devices are welcome, so if you want to arrive with a smartphone or tablet you will still benefit from the day.
Be prepared to learn a lot. Everything will be covered from lenses to photographing strangers. Compare black and white to colour and understand how to recognise the all important ‘ decisive moment’.
Street photography is your filter on the world, a record of life as you see it. It’s dynamic, random and challenging. This day will teach you how to be an observer.

Your tutor Dr Eva Kalpadaki is a PGCE qualified teacher and has 13 years of teaching experience. Eva lives and works in Brighton and is looking forward to welcoming you to her classes.

What a hidden gem this place is! Just 5 minutes walk from London Bridge and the hustle and bustle of Borough Market this pancake place is lovely. We received a warm friendly welcome from the staff, they explained in detail options for my husband who's pescatarian and doesn't eat eggs. We had the Australian corn fritters with extra pancake and a vegan option (very close to pancakes with eggs, slightly less tasty but once the toppings were on you wouldn't notice). Thoroughly enjoyed our visit to this unusual art installation. Each of the rooms were quite different themes. Staff were pleasant, toilets were clean and there is a nice cafe. There was a small charge for storing large bags but this was all being donated to charity. An enjoyable couple of hours spent here. We then went to the Stablehand near Hyde Park and were met with a warm welcome, excellent service and a very pleasant meal. Had a lovely day enjoying these two experiences

Helen and I very much enjoyed the session with you 'up-cycling' some vintage plates. We have never done anything like this before, but found your instructions clear and easy to follow. It was such a creative session, yet relaxing as you were so helpful and there was plenty of time. Thank you for making it such a fun, yet creative couple of hours.
The event was easy to book through the telephone once we had the code. The hotel was beautifully presented and the staff were excellent. The food was very typical of afternoon teas but there was only one each of four cakes where there is normally one of each. We added the glass of champagne and the whole meal passed of very well with no problems. We might have preferred a couple of extra cakes and only one scone each but that is probably a personal point.
I bought this workshop as a birthday present for a friend and it was such a fun afternoon. Claire was very helpful with telling us all we needed to know to make our own soaps. A great gift (where you end up with more gifts to give away!).
