Unravel the artistry and nuances of sake at La Bibliotheque's masterclass; sip a cocktail, learn the history from an expert while sampling a flight of three varieties in an uber-cool Japanese-inspired setting.
WHAT'S THIS ALL ABOUT?
The labels on sake bottles are works of art in their own right. You don’t have to visit Japan to know that the aesthetic side of life feeds into the every day, and this can be seen on the bottles.
Just like wine, the label offers a lot of information, but sadly most of us can’t read it. The design can tell you about the quality, flavour and story of the drink, as well as revealing the style and personality of the brewery.
There is another way to get to understand the nuances of sake and that is to attend a masterclass at La Bibliotheque, the uber cool boutique hotel on Kingsland Road.
On arrival you will be given an all important sake cocktail, to set the mood. There will be a dedicated sake expert who will guide you through a fight of three different types of sake, as you learn about the history of this fabulous rice wine. The origin is unclear, but the method of fermentation spread from China to Japan around 500 BC.
Both the menus and the decor give more than a nod to Japan. This is an elegant space to enjoy and learn about sake. Stay on for dinner for a really immersive experience.
