Mosaics are all around us, from kitchen backsplashes to art installations in parks. They have an extraordinary history. If you want to learn the basics of this fascinating craft and go home with a piece of your own design, this private workshop gives you the opportunity to experiment and learn in a cosy, stimulating environment alongside a passionate artist.
Amy will walk you through the process step-by-step. Create your own design, or ask Amy to craft a custom design just for you prior to arriving at her studio.

Just you and mosaicist Amy Exton, one-on-one at her studio in Margate. This is a unique opportunity to learn the fundamentals of this ancient art form with a contemporary artist who has been commissioned to design interiors for Margate’s Dreamland, The George and Heart House, and the indie music venue Elsewhere. The Romans had Cirencester, Amy has Margate in her sights.
This is a full-day workshop, scheduled on a day that suits both you and Amy. Lunch will be provided at the studio, and be prepared to learn a lot—it’s just you after all, so you can ask all the questions you want as you work to complete your mosaic (15 to 20 cm), ready to take home at the end of the session.
You will work with unglazed ceramic and vitreous glass, using traditional tools to cut and shape your tiles. Learn about different methods of application, the principles of andamento (the flow of design), and importantly, how to grout.
The studio is filled with pieces made by Amy, and it’s fascinating to see her very modern twist applied to an ancient art form. Working with the artist in their own space is an exciting and unique experience. Enjoy.

A brilliant experience. It was well thought out and planned, covering all the essential tips through different areas in the inspirational Shorditch. James was knowledgable, friendly, encouraging and challenging all at the same time. It was a full group but we all had our share of his expertise and wisdom. It was overall entertaining and enjoyable as well as informative and I’d definately do another.
Service was efficient when we arrived but not rushed. Several dishes such as the tuna and the gyoza were spot on. Very minor downside was missing cutlery for the dessert selection but quickly rectified
We were given this voucher as a gift and what a wonderful present. Venue was great, staff were amazing and the food was exceptional. The Miso Aubergine was amazing as were the sweet treats. Would highly recommend this.
We didn't really know what to expect, in fact we thought it would be a group wine tasting rather than a personal experience for us two. It was great, lovely place and lovely people, the wines were right up our street and the vegan nibbles we perfect.
What a lovely mindful evening and such a calm, kind and encouraging teacher. I can't wait to make more candles.
