A beginners stone carving class in a workshop near Spitalfields.
WHAT'S THIS SCULPTING CLASS ALL ABOUT?
Stone carving comes in many guises. The Great Sphinx is at the top of scale when it comes to size and skill and then there are the church gargoyles and artefacts that can be traced back to ancient civilizations all over the world.
Petroglyphs is another name for stone art, when signs or drawings are carved or scratched in the rock surface, using a stone chisel and a hammerstone.
In this class you will learning, from a master craftsman, how to sculpt while sipping, as you scratch out a design idea. They will be simple- maybe a letter of the alphabet, or an architectural motif. Remember Rome wasn’t built in a day.
YOUR SCULPTING EXPERIENCE
Ingle-Nook is a small workshop in Spitalfields. A space filled with creations and curiosities to showcase the remnants and relics of a master craftsman - the master craftsman on the case is Simon Ings, who has 30 experience and specialises in the restoration of antiques and artefacts.
By the way ‘sipping’ is not a tech term. A non alcoholic drink will be provided at the end, as you review the merits of your labours, and appreciate the skill and dedication needed to become a stone carver. Bring your own bottle if you prefer.
