One of the oldest alternative photography techniques. It’s simple and versatile.
If you're a fan of cyan blue, then this is a workshop worth exploring.

WHAT’S THIS ALL ABOUT?

Cyanotype is a camera-less technique for reproduction. In this workshop, you will lay objects onto sensitised paper and expose it to UV light, revealing a one-of-a-kind print in a gorgeous Prussian blue. The process was invented in 1842 by Sir John Herschel, and the term ‘blueprint’ comes from his use of cyanotype.  He employed the technique not for art, but for diagrams.

It was later used by the botanist Anna Atkins to create three volumes of work on algae, each seaweed painstakingly copied using the process and turned into beautiful prints in the signature colour.  Now it’s your turn.

TELL ME MORE

Under the expert eye of Rachel Evans, you will be guided through the process of cyanotype.  You don’t need previous experience in drawing or painting to derive satisfaction from this workshop, but if you have already had some practice with this printing technique, you will also receive help in improving and developing your skills.
Rachel is an artist and printmaker and runs Little Lion Studios, where she regularly teaches workshops catering to all abilities.

So discover, and become part of, one of the oldest photographic printing processes. Science meets art, and the results are very blue and unexpected.
