Richard William Wheater is a neon artist of international standing. Now you can take a class with the best. The Neon Workshops company is established in Wakefield. It houses a gallery, workshops and a significant public resources library. The company makes and installs neon. Their commissions come from artists, galleries, the retail sector and individuals. Their neon work has cropped up in stately homes, private gardens, theatre sets - you name it, they can make it.

This is an energetic and practical half or full day introduction, with two tutors, into the brilliant, flash and fizzle world of neon. Neon is an energy saving, recyclable light, and the Neon Workshop aims to challenge common expectations of the material, so be prepared to be inspired by the skill of your teachers.
This is a beginner's course, but you will be taking home a piece of neon you have designed and made. Your piece will be processed on the 'electric bombarder' and illuminated to take home and plug in. Blow lamps will be provided, and a quick coffee break.

Sessions run a couple of times a year usually in May and June.

Product code: INABLI had an excellent day at Neon Workshops on a one to one course. Matty was a great teacher who ran me through the history and processes involved in meon making. I have some experience with glass making but this was new to me. I was happy with how much I learned in a day and came away with a fantastic neon piece to take home.
I really enjoyed the One Day Intensive course with Richard and Julia as we learnt all about neon (history, manufacture, installation etc) in the morning and then, in the afternoon, we saw our designs come to life in front of our eyes. I’m really delighted with the neon barge I went home with and can’t wait to get it up on the wall. A great day that I would strongly recommend.
I visited the workshop at the beginning of February with my son. Had a great time found everything very informative and interesting. We both enjoyed the practical bits and we were made to feel very welcome by all the members of staff that were present. The group sizing was excellent to enable everybody to get a good view of the workshop and also to enable any questions to be answered. We thoroughly enjoyed the workshop and would recommend it to all ages.
Brilliant day with Richard and Julia at Neon Workshops on the One Day Intensive. Fascinating insight into both the history of neon and the process of creating it. The course was a good price and we were a nice small group, amazing to go home with a working neon I had designed in the day. We were all well looked after throughout the day with hot drinks and great recommendations for lunch too. Thank you Richard and Julia - I have and will continue to recommend Neon Workshops.
