Prop up four delicious, lesser-known gin bars in Bermondsey with some snacks to keep you this side of sobre. Ice and slice?
WHAT'S THIS ALL ABOUT?
Bermondsey - and what better way to discover the food and gin culture that proliferate in the area than to sip your way around it. This is a walk with gin at its heart.
In 1733 the average Joe was glugging about 14 gallons of the stuff a year and ‘raw’ might be a good way of describing the flavour. Moving on, to 2021 and our ‘Gin and Tonic’ is rather more sophis, and we expect our tonic to be filled with as many botanicals as the gin, with maybe a swirl of juniper berries to add a light crunch and amusement to the bottom of the glass.
WHAT HAPPENS IN THIS EXPERIENCE?
You will be visiting four different venues. Propping up these bars will be an education as well as a pleasure. Taste the past with a classic cocktail and the present - gin with a twist. There’s obviously a few good old-fashioned g & t’s, and to keep you this side of sobre some small bites. Visit Bermondsey market, a working distillery and learn about the history of the area. Your host will keep you entertained as well as fortified.
Ice and slice? Gin and French? On the rocks? Or maybe just locate a cocktail stick with an olive and call it day. Apparently, you can now buy craft gin in chic paper bottles - the new eco-tipple. It’s all very Gin-teresting.
