A tutored tasting of five of the best ciders from Britain’s independent cideries, held in Hiver’s taproom on the Bermondsey Beer Mile. 

WHAT’S THIS ALL ABOUT?
If your idea of cider stops at a pint of something fizzy and very sweet, prepare to be converted. Britain has one of the richest cider traditions in the world, and this tasting is a proper tour of it. Your expert host has picked five of the best bottles from the UK’s independent cideries. Each one shows off a different side of the drink: dry or sweet, still or sparkling, farmhouse funk or crisp and clean.

Along the way you’ll get the history of Britain’s oldest drink and the different regional styles. Crucially, you’ll also learn how it actually gets made, from pip to pint. By the end you’ll know exactly which style is yours, and you’ll have the vocabulary to order it smugly.

The tasting takes place at Hiver’s Taproom, tucked into a railway arch on the Bermondsey Beer Mile. It’s a relaxed, sociable session, and tables often get chatting. It’s a great one for couples, friends, or the person who insists they “don’t really like beer”. Afterwards, Maltby Street Market and the rest of the Beer Mile are on the doorstep.
