There’s a whole world of flavour growing around us, if you know where to look.

Join wild food expert Flavour Fred for a fascinating introduction to foraging, exploring the edible plants and seasonal ingredients found across Britain’s green spaces. You’ll learn how to identify what’s growing around you, discover some of the stories and folklore behind wild ingredients and, importantly, learn how to tell the delicious from the decidedly dangerous.

This isn’t about filling baskets with whatever you can find. It’s about developing the knowledge and confidence to start looking at the landscape, and your dinner, a little differently.

WHAT HAPPENS ON THE WALK?

Over 2.5 hours, you’ll explore the surrounding landscape with Flavour Fred, stopping to identify seasonal plants, herbs, fruits, fungi and other wild ingredients along the way.

You’ll learn the basics of responsible foraging, including identification techniques, rules and regulations and how to recognise potentially dangerous lookalikes. Fred will also share the history and folklore surrounding different ingredients and plenty of ideas for transforming wild finds into something genuinely delicious.

Food is never far from the conversation. Along the way, you’ll hear about preservation techniques and clever ways to use wild ingredients at home, with a few tasters to bring everything to life. These typically include bread, wild condiments and samples of Fred’s wild drinks and infusions.

Afterwards, you’ll receive a follow-up covering what you discovered, alongside useful resources and recommendations so you can continue learning at home.

THE ALL IMPORTANT DETAILS

• The experience lasts approximately 2.5 hours and takes place outdoors.
• Flavour Fred runs public walks at a selection of locations, including Hackney Marshes, Horsenden Hill in Ealing, Woodoaks Farm in Hertfordshire and The Grange in Hampshire, with the location depending on the date selected.
• This is an identification-led experience rather than a gathering course, so guests will not be collecting wild ingredients during the walk.
• A small selection of food and drink tasters is included, but these do not constitute a full meal.
• Please dress appropriately for the weather and outdoor terrain, and bring water. Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a lead.
• Final meeting information is provided shortly before the experience once weather conditions and the best route have been confirmed.
