High Chai: A vibrant fusion of British high tea and Indian flavours, offering a culinary adventure through chaat, nibbles, and sweet delights.

WHAT'S THIS ALL  ABOUT?

High Chai, the Indian version of a British high tea, as flavours of East Indian weave their way into our traditional tea time spread.

As the name suggests the decor is inspired by the colour and energy of a bazaar.  For centuries these markets have been the place to buy, sell, exchange, entertain and be entertained. They are also the places to discover unusual spices and new flavours.

TELL ME MORE

Pot of tea for two? Well there’s Earl Grey or Assam, but why not try Jade Sword Green or White Peony? The in-house Indian Masala Chai is freshly brewed using ginger and cardamom.

The High Chai menu is divided into three. Start with a chaat, that’s a spicy snack, just enough to take the edge off your appetite before moving on to the ‘nibbles’. Marsala fish finger sandwich and Chicken spring roll.

Did we mention there’s a glass of Prosecco (or a mocktail) on the menu?  This will make High Chai rather more of a celebration -and then of course there’s the sweet treats. Goan sawdust pudding, which, despite the name is rich and creamy with layers of cakey crumbs (hence the ‘sawdust’), toy with a saffron and pistachio macaron, and admire the Bebinca, another Goan delicacy.

So there you have it.  A cup of delicious tea and treats, all you have to do is add the conversation.

Chat and chaats, a heavenly combo.

Film Lovers, Art Deco, Independent Cinema Experience for Two

Go where cinema first began. Velvet chairs, gold coat hooks, and a working Compton cinema organ.  WHAT'S THIS ALL ABOUT? Right in the heart of London, over 120 years ago, the Lumière Brothers unveiled their Cinematographe machine, kickstarting the film industry; This was the first cinema to open its doors to the paying public, charging 54 people a shilling each to watch the 40 second clip. Kintsugi Workshop

Embrace those imperfections with a golden repair. WHAT'S THIS ALL ABOUT? Learn how to mend once loved china and earthenware in this mindful introduction to the Kintsugi method. The visible repairs are seen as part of the history of an object, highlighting the cracks and symbolising fragility, strength and beauty. This golden repair is called Kintsugi. WHAT HAPPENS IN THIS WORKSHOP? The idea of this workshop is to repair a loved item, joining together the fractures using the Japanese Kintsugi method - applying the resin glue to the broken sections and making it whole once more. The imperfections aren’t to be hidden but embraced! The Kintsugi method celebrates the beauty of the scars in an object and recognises that the history should be shown and not hidden. Choose your broken porcelain (vase, bowl, plate or cup), and be taken by our resident Indytute expert, step by step through the technique of mending each section piece by piece. This is very much a thoughtful and methodical process….not to be rushed, where each piece is applied and repaired carefully. THE ALL IMPORTANT DETAILS The Indytute will provide all the kit needed for this workshop: You can bring your own china but we can't guarantee it'll be finished on time as the process needs to be done with patience.
