Railway fans and curious adventurers can get behind the controls of a Type 4 diesel locomotive on the scenic Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway or a Type 3 Class 37 diesel locomotive on the Pontypool and Blaenavon Railway.
The experience begins with a warm welcome from the railway crew and a safety briefing before heading onto the footplate. Then comes the exciting bit: taking the controls and driving around four miles of heritage railway, with approximately 2,500 horsepower at their command.

The drive lasts around 30 minutes, with an expert crew on hand throughout. There’s something rather special about the combination of vintage railway atmosphere, serious mechanical power and lovely scenery. I took my mother here for afternoon tea, and wasn’t expecting too much, as it was a freebie which I redeemed... However, the entire experience was brilliant and would not bat an eyelid at experiencing again as a paying customer.
